Councilmember John Heanue

John Heanue and his wife Patricia grew up in White Plains, NY and raised their three daughters in neighboring Larchmont, NY.  In 2019, they moved to the Town of Orchid.  

John graduated from the University of Colorado with a BS in Business in 1967.  He added an MBA in Finance from Pace University in 1977.  John served in the US Army from 1968-1970, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. Aside from four years in Hong Kong, most of John's career was on Wall Street, focusing on corporate lending and risk analysis of derivative products.  He spent nearly twenty-five years with Goldman, Sachs & Co, retiring as a Managing Director.

Role of a Councilmember

Councilmembers represent the constituents of the Town of Orchid. Meetings of the Town Council take place "in the Sunshine", which means they are subject to Sunshine Law and open to the public. This is where Councilmembers vote on matters concerning Town business, such as the annual budget, new vendor agreements,  zoning and land development, local laws and policies, etc.  

Councilmember Term

Councilmember Heanue ran unopposed in the Town election of 2022 and was sworn into his current term on November 29 that same year. The term runs until November 2026.

County & Regional Committee Appointments

Councilmember Heanue currently represents the Town of Orchid on the Beach & Shores Preservation Advisory Committee and serves as the Town's alternate on the Metropolitan Planning Organization.
