Advisory Boards

From time to time, the Town Council appoints advisory boards of local residents to perform detailed studies of issues that are important to the Town. These committees may work with the Town Manager, town staff members, and other individuals and report their findings to the Town Council for formal town action. Advisory committees are extremely valuable for the Town Council to gain outside perspectives and expertise.

When the Town Council is soliciting applications, an email is sent out to local residents subscribed to the Town's email distribution list. Residents who would like to serve on an Advisory Committee are encouraged to contact any member of the Town Council or the Town Clerk.

From time to time, the Town Council may establish, by resolution, an advisory Auditor Selection Committee. The task of this committee is to provide the Town Council with a recommendation regarding proposals from independent auditing firms regarding the Town's annual financial audit as required by state law.

In January 2016, the Town Council adopted an ordinance which removed the Town Council as the Local Planning Agency and established instead a separate body comprised of Orchid residents in that role. The Town Council appointed seven volunteers to the Local Planning Agency. The school board may designate a representative to serve in a non-voting capacity, but has thus far foregone that right.
