Online Accessibility
Through its website, the Town of Orchid endeavors to provide a useful resource to anyone interested in learning about the Town and its activities. Accessibility plays a major role in that goal, as the Town recognizes that a well-designed website is a benefit to all who visit it. The Town understands that persons with disabilities encounter unique challenges and is eager to provide accessibility to its online resources in a manner that aids those with special needs in their quest for information.
Examples include:
- A clean font for easier reading
- Contrasting colors for text and background
- A consistent layout for easier navigation
- Alt-tags for images, even though most are offered for decorative purposes
- Descriptive hyperlinks
- And more.
The Town utilizes DocAccess by Streamline to provide accessibility to PDF documents and forms. Such files open in the DocAccess viewer, which offers an Accessible Transcript View (toggle at the top of the page), hot key functionality, a document outline for quicker navigation, translation in over 100 languages, an AI-powered "ask a question" feature and 30 minutes of complimentary live assistance from a human through Aira to help with any PDF document on the website, including filling out a form, and more. If you encounter an issue with a PDF document's accessibility, you can report it directly to DocAccess.
