Accessibility for Americans with Disabilities

Online Accessibility

Through its website, the Town or Orchid endeavors to provide a useful resource to anyone interested in learning about the Town and its activities. Accessibility plays a major role in that goal, as the Town recognizes that a well-designed website is a benefit to all who visit it. The Town understands that persons with disabilities encounter unique challenges and it is eager to provide accessibility to its online resources in a manner that aids those with special needs in their quest for information. For example, the Town has endeavored to add Alt-tags to the images used on this website, though most are offered for decorative purposes. The Town has chosen a traditional font at a recently enlarged size for easier reading and navigation. The Town makes many of its documents available through PDF and it is in the process of converting these, not just to feature Optical Character Recognition, but also to include tags as added by Adobe Acrobat 9.0. The majority of the website's pages is offered with a simple layout, where the best reading order is from left to right and from top to bottom. Links are offered in a contrasting color and at an enlarged size.

Attending Meetings

Official Town meetings that are open to the public are generally held at the Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club, which offers parking spaces for persons with disabilities and is designed to be accessible by wheelchair. If you require special accommodations or an interpreter to attend or participate in the proceedings, please notify the Town Clerk no later than 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
