Streetlight Program
The Town's network of 109 ornate streetlights illuminates Orchid so it's as beautiful after the sun sets as it is during the day. Of course, the proper lighting of Orchid's streets also offers safety to their users, whether pedestrian, by bicycle, golf cart or car. The Town's administration works together closely with the Community Association and the gate-houses to ensure malfunctioning and inoperative lights are tended to as expeditiously as possible.
On a weekly basis, the Town Clerk reaches out to the main gate-house for a report on streetlight issues as noted during patrol by the Community Association's "Rover". The Town works with Blais Electric of Vero Beach to attend to the issues and return malfunctioning/inoperative streetlights to working condition.
The combination of typical Florida ocean air, heavy downpours and blazing sunshine slowly dulls the paint on the Town's streetlights, so every three years, they each receive a fresh coat of paint to ensure that they remain attractive as well as operational. If only there were sun screens for streetlights!
Report a Streetlight Issue
Please use the below form to submit a streetlight report to the Town Administration. Only streetlights along streets and on crossings belong to the Town. Streetlights located in parking lots, such as those belonging to the various Orchid Island Club buildings, commercial properties and condominiums, do not fall under the Town's responsibility.
Streetlights owned by the Town have an identification number on the base of the pole. Additionally, in the slideshow images below are two maps denoting by number the location of the Town's streetlights in Orchid. Please provide this streetlight's number in your report if you can and/or provide a detailed description of the streetlight's location.
