Twenty One Dog Licenses Issued

Dog prints in the sand of the beach.

As of Thanksgiving, the Town has issued 21 dog licenses to happy pooches enjoying the beach in Orchid untethered during designated times. Sand and surf offer an enjoyable environment for beachgoers and their dogs alike. Following is information about the license - consider one for your dog or maybe you have visitors bringing along a furry friend with a love for the beach.

The license allows a dog on the beach in Orchid off-leash or on a leash extended more than 8 feet from sunrise to 9 a.m. or from 5 p.m. to sunset. It comes in the form of a snazzy little tag for the dog's collar. A license obtained now is valid through September 30, 2024, which coincides with the Town's fiscal year end. A new license costs $50 per dog, but renewals are just $20.

Applications are available at Town Hall and online. Please note that the applicant's signature must be notarized; all employees at Town Hall are notaries and happy to be of assistance. Applications must include a veterinarian’s certificate of current rabies vaccination or valid Indian River County animal license that have the expiration date of the vaccination as well as the name and breed of the dog. Please note that the Town cannot accept credit cards at Town Hall, but there is an online payment option on the website.

Important: licenses are not necessary for dogs on the beach which are always kept on a leash not extended more than 8 feet.
