Connecting with Coastal Connections

Dune vegetation along the sandy coastline by the Atlantic Ocean where two sunbathers sit underneath blue and white umbrellas.

The Town of Orchid is partnering with local organization Coastal Connections for public outreach and education efforts on the beach in Orchid. The Town Council is eager to engage with beach goers enjoying this wonderful recreational facility about the local regulations in place to protect this precious and fragile resource. Coastal Connections will on occasion be present on the beach in Orchid to provide helpful information and hand out fun and tasty goodies to visitors who bring along their canine companions for a romp in the sand.

Communicating the importance of the protective dune system, recently repaired by the Town of Orchid at significant expense following tremendously damaging impacts from Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, the vital role of healthy dune vegetation in dune building and maintenance, and the beach as nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles, is not only valuable to spreading awareness to benefit protection this coastal environment, but it's also terribly fascinating. Coastal Connections has a great track record of connecting people to the beach in a deeper way and the Town is glad to have their presence every now and then. Don't be shy to talk with their knowledgeable representative, and if you've brought along a four-pawed pal, be sure to ask if they have a treat to give!

Meanwhile, you can read up online on the local Beach and Dunes regulations or obtain an Orchid dog license to let your dog enjoy the beach off-leash in the mornings and late afternoons.
