Dan McEvoy and his wife Dede moved to Orchid in January 2021 having lived in New Canaan, CT for 22 years. They spend their summers in Chautauqua, NY.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1974, he began his career with Cargill in their metals trading subsidiary in New York where he traded non-ferrous metals. He served as an advisor to the U.S. State Department when it was a member of the International Tin Agreement. In 1985 he joined Citibank where he was VP Corporate Finance & Marketing Precious Metals where he developed financing and hedging strategies for mining companies and central banks to manage their bullion reserves. After retiring from commodities trading, he joined several startup software companies where he developed and sold trading and risk management software to streamline the commodities business.
Since his retirement, Dan has devoted his efforts to improving the quality of life of those in the communities in which he has lived. In New Canaan he served as President of the Exchange Club of New Canaan where members “exchange” their time and talent through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities, and its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse. He served on the Board of GetAbout that annually provides over 10,000 door-to-door rides in specially equipped wheelchair vans for New Canaan, CT residents, Seniors & others unable to drive. He also served as President of the Parenting Skills Center in Stamford, CT whose mission is to stop or prevent the cycle of child abuse or neglect in families living in Fairfield County. Dan was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan.
In Chautauqua he is the President of the Chautauqua Golf Club Board of Governors and former Trustee of the Presbyterian Association of Chautauqua.
In Orchid Dan was a member of the Local Planning Agency and Community Association Board member.
Role of a Councilmember
Councilmembers represent the constituents of the Town of Orchid. Meetings of the Town Council take place "in the Sunshine", which means they are subject to Sunshine Law and open to the public. This is where Councilmembers vote on matters concerning Town business, such as the annual budget, new vendor agreements, zoning and land development, local laws and policies, etc.
Councilmember Term
Councilmember McEvoy was elected to the Town Council in November, 2024 to serve a four-year term that will extend through November, 2028.

Councilmember McEvoy currently represents the Town of Orchid on the Indian River County Metropolitan Planning Organization.
