Hurricane Ian has moved off-shore into the Atlantic. During a post-storm assessment in the community, it appeared local impacts from this storm were limited to landscaping damage with broken branches, fallen fronds, etc. Please note that landscaping debris is not collected by the Town's haulers and should be handled by private landscapers as in previous storms.
The lakes in the community were high, but there appeared to be no significant flooding. However, if your property did incur damages, proceed cautiously and document those for insurance purposes.
The Town's streetlights were all still standing. However, due to the time of day of the assessment, it was not possible to determine whether they were operational. If a streetlight is not working, please contact Town Hall. Each Town streetlight has a number at the top of the base of the pole for easy identification to the Town.
At the beach, the dune slope was further eroded and the escarpment increased with high water levels and strong wave action. However, the main part of the new flat dune as installed by the county as part of their major sector renourishment appeared intact post-storm. Escarpments can be dangerous, so please do not walk on the dunes or get close to the bottom of the dunes where sand collapse is possible.
