Description

Ordinance No. 2024-07 amends the Town of Orchid Charter by replacing gender-specific terminology with gender-neutral terminology throughout the Charter. Among other changes, terms such as “Councilman,” “Councilmen,” and “Chairman” are replaced with “Councilmember,” “Councilmembers,” and “Chair,” and certain gender-specific pronouns are revised accordingly. The Ordinance does not substantively alter the meaning, powers, duties, or structure of the Charter. The public purpose of the Ordinance is to modernize Charter terminology, improve clarity and inclusiveness, and ensure that the language of the Town’s governing document more accurately applies to all persons who may hold municipal office or perform municipal duties.
