Mr. Young served from May 2014 until December 2020 as the Council-appointed Representative for the Town on Indian River County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

This committee is composed of cycling and pedestrian advocates and enthusiasts, whose major task is to update the County's bicycle/pedestrian plan and to provide the Metropolitan Planning Organization with input on enhancement projects and planning activities to achieve ample, safe, and pleasant bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the county.

The proclamation recognized Mr. Young for the manner in which, as an avid cyclist himself, he had officially represented the Town, and during his tenure had been instrumental in the promotion of the safety, equity and enjoyment of cyclists and pedestrians in Indian River County, and how in early 2019, he spearheaded an effort to provide garage-side collection of 32 donated adult- and child-sized bikes from the Orchid community for the local Bike Rehab program.

The Town Council applauded Mr. Young as the Mayor presented him with the proclamation and thanked him for his dedication. Mr. Young thanked the Town Council for this special recognition and provided information about important developments in bicycling opportunities within the County that were recently completed, currently ongoing, and planned for the future.

Examples are not far removed from Orchid's doorstep, with the enhancements along Highway A1A and the safety precautions added to the lower A. B. Michael Bridge, for instance.

Please join the Town Council in thanking Mr. Philip Young for his efforts in promoting the health and fitness of our own community and for those around us.
