Local Orchid Election Results Certified

Although the unofficial results of our local Orchid election have been available online since election day on November 3rd, the Indian River County Canvassing Board officially certified those results only in the afternoon of November 13. 3 Orchid residents qualified in the race for 2 Councilmember seats, and local electors were able to vote for up to 2 of these candidates.

The results are as follows:

  • Mary Jane Benedetto: 289 votes
  • Paul Knapp: 258 votes
  • Allan H. Lamport: 203 votes

Mary Jane Benedetto and Paul Knapp have thus been elected to the Town Council to serve a 4-year term each.

Originally, they were scheduled to be sworn in at the November 19 Town Council meeting, but that meeting has had to be canceled. Instead, they will be seated at the December 2 meeting. At that same meeting, the positions of Mayor and Vice-Mayor will be filled for the upcoming year; they are selected by the Town Council from members of the Town Council. The December meeting will start at 10 a.m. and is anticipated to only accommodate remote public access; details will be made available in advance of that meeting regarding how to call in or connect, and the agenda will be posted on the Town's website, as is customary.
