The Town Council was pleased to welcome Florida Representative Robert "Robbie" Brackett to Town Hall at the Orchid Professional Centre on September 23. The Town Council had gathered in the late afternoon for the final budget hearing, which by state law must be held in September.
Before the summer, a bill sponsored in the 2024 Legislative Session by Representative Brackett had become law to exempt the Town of Orchid specifically from the general requirement of holding Council meetings within local municipal boundaries.
This bill enables the Town Council, and its advisory committees, to utilize the new Council Chambers for the purpose of holding public meetings. Representative Brackett enjoyed a tour of the new facilities at 9301 Highway A1a, Suite 201, Vero Beach, FL 32963, to which the Town's administration moved in mid-March this year.
During the meeting, the Town Council adopted, pursuant to Orchid's Charter, a resolution to set the time and place of its regular meetings at the new Town Hall and thanked Representative Brackett for making that possible.
He told the Town Council that he thought the new location of Town Hall was much more suitable for the community, both in its convenient location on the barrier island as well as in its representation of the beautiful community it serves.
He expressed that he was very pleased that the local bill he'd sponsored at the request and on behalf of Orchid had passed, underscoring that it was an easy matter for the Florida Legislature to support unanimously throughout the process.
Meetings of the Town Council and its advisory committees are open to the public. If interest in a meeting exceeds capacity at Town Hall, which is somewhat limited in size, then the meeting will be scheduled in coordination with the Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club to provide more space.
The Council Chambers are expected to accommodate up to 20 interested persons.
