Online Accessibility Design
Through its website, the Town of Orchid endeavors to provide a useful resource to anyone interested in learning about the Town and its services. Accessibility plays a major role in that goal, as the Town recognizes that a well-designed website is a benefit to all who visit it. The Town understands that persons with disabilities encounter unique challenges and is eager to provide accessibility to its online resources. Our website has been designed to comply with Federal Law Section 508 as well as Web Contact Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 A and AA.
Examples include:
- A clean font for easier reading
- Contrasting colors for text and background
- A consistent layout for easier navigation
- Alt-tags for images
- Descriptive hyperlinks
- Proper hierarchical headings
- And more.
The Town utilizes DocAccess by CivicPlus to provide accessibility to online PDF documents and forms. Such files open in the DocAccess viewer, which offers an Accessible Transcript View (toggle at the top of the page), hot key functionality, a document outline for quicker navigation, translation in over 100 languages, an AI-powered “ask a question” feature and 30 minutes of complimentary live assistance through Aira to help with any PDF document on the website, including filling out a form, and more. If you encounter an issue with a PDF document’s accessibility, you can report it directly to DocAccess.
If you have difficulty accessing the website’s information or resources, or have any comments or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us (see bottom of page). This includes if you use assistive technology (such as a Braille reader, a screen reader, or TTY) and the format of any material on this website interferes with your ability to access information, please contact us. To enable us to respond in a manner most helpful to you, please indicate the nature of your accessibility problem, the preferred format in which to receive the material, the web address of the requested material, and your contact information. Any issue with accessibility will be endeavored to be corrected as soon as possible.
