Town of Orchid uses a single-stream recycling system. All recyclables - hard plastics, paper, glass, cardboard - go in one bin. Go Green and think Blue!
Under Florida law, email addresses are public records. If you do not wish your email address to be released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to the Town Administration or its officials. Instead, contact this office by phone or letter.
Trash & Recycling Information for Residents
Garage Side Collection
Please be advised that Town of Orchid uses two separate companies for trash and recycling pick-up. Their information is included below. When putting out your trash or recycle cans for collection, please place them by your garage door, rather than at the end of your driveway. Town of Orchid's trash and recycle collectors will pick up the cans from in front of your garage area, which allows the Town to maintain its beautiful aesthetic even on trash and recycle pick-up days. If you have questions related to trash or recycling pick-up, please contact the Town.
Trash Pick-up • Waste Pro
In 2015, the Town renewed its contract with Waste Pro for its trash hauling needs. Town staff works with the Waste Pro Operations Manager to ensure that garage door to garage door service is provided by Waste Pro personnel. Place trash cans just outside the garage door (not curbside), as this presents a nicer appearance in the community. Waste Pro does not provide bins to residents, please feel free to utilize a bin that works for you.
Please place trash cans just outside your garage door on Tuesday and Friday mornings no later than 7:15 a.m. for pick-up.
In the event Waste Pro neglects to pick-up your garbage by 3:30 p.m. on designated service days, please contact Town Hall staff at 772-581-2770. Additionally, please contact staff with any other complaints or problems you experience with Waste Pro services. In the event a problem arises outside Town Hall operating hours, you may call Waste Pro Management directly at 772-595-9390 for trash issues.
Pursuant to the terms of a Franchise Agreement, Waste Pro bills the Town of Orchid directly for residential and commercial solid waste pick-up services. Yard waste removal services are not included as one of Waste Pro's services to Town residents and Club facilities under the Franchise Agreement.
Under the current billing arrangement with Waste Pro, residents and homeowners do not need to call Waste Pro with requests to begin or end garbage services. The Town notifies Waste Pro whenever the certificate of occupancy has been issued on a new home. Waste Pro personnel know to look at each home as they pass through Orchid to see if a trash cart has been left out for pick-up.
Recycling Pick-up • Waste Management
Recycling pick-up is handled by Waste Management pursuant to a separate inter-local agreement with Indian River County. Waste Management provides a recycling bin to Orchid's residents. Town staff works with the Waste Management Manager to ensure that garage door to garage door service is provided by their personnel. Placing recycling bins just outside the garage door presents a nicer appearance in the community.
Waste Management has provided a blue recycle cart to each residence for use with Single Stream Recycling. Please only use this designated cart for your recycling needs. To review which items may be disposed of in your recycle cart, click HERE. Note: Styrofoam cannot be recycled, so please do not place Styrofoam packaging or containers in your recycle cart. Food containers should be rinsed completely clean before disposal into the recycle cart. There is no need to separate different recyclable items, with Single Stream Recycling, all recyclable items are disposed in the same convenient cart!
Two cart sizes are available, the larger of which has been distributed in Orchid. You may contact the Town Clerk's office to request a smaller cart in its place.
Please be aware that Friday is the pick-up day for recycling, your blue recycling cart should be put out by your garage for emptying no later than 7.15 a.m.
In the event Waste Management neglects to pick-up your recycling by 3:30 p.m. on designated service days, please contact Town Hall staff at 772-581-2770. Additionally, please contact staff with any other complaints or problems you experience with Waste Management's services. In the event a problem arises outside Town Hall operating hours, you may call Waste Management directly at 772-770-3179 for recycling issues.
It is Indian River County's goal to get to 75% recycling by 2020. Can Orchid help the county reach its target? Click HERE for more information from the county on recycling.
