Please be advised that due to health reasons Larry Doddridge, LLC, is no longer serving as the Town of Orchid's Building Official. Effective June 26, 2007, the Town contracted with Independent Inspections, Ltd., to provide building official and building code administration services to the Town. Independent Inspections also provides building code administration services to the City of Fellsmere. Independent Inspections will begin providing inspection services on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Depending on the inspector's availability, contractors may request inspections on other days of the week under special circumstances for no additional fee. Contractors and subcontractors should continue to call the Orchid Town Hall at 772-569-7686 to schedule inspections! The Town's agreement with Independent Inspections included adoption of a revised building permit fee schedule and a change in some of the Town's procedures. The new fee schedule is posted below. A major change in the Town of Orchid's permitting procedures is that a general contractor who hires subcontractors to work on a particular construction project will be required to list those subcontractors on the building permit application and include the value of subcontractor work in the total permit valuation. The new building permit application form is posted below. When applying for a permit, general contractors are required to provide proof of insurance and licensure. General contractors are responsible for ensuring that any subcontractors they hire for a particular job are properly licensed and insured. Please be advised the Town has also implemented a new Work Permit requirement that will apply to subcontractors and other service providers that are not state-certified. A copy of the work permit requirements is posted below as Town of Orchid Building Department Information. You may also stop by or contact Town Hall Staff to request a copy of the brochure.
