This Web Site has been created primarily for the Town Council and Town Staff to communicate information about the Town and its ongoing operations to residents, potential residents, and businesses who work with or in the Town. The design of the site includes many pictures of town scenes and wildlife to showcase the natural beauty of our town. We hope you will find the Web Site informative and useful. If you have ideas for new features, information to include, or if you experience problems using this site, please contact a member of the Town Staff. UPCOMING TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS:

The next scheduled Town Council Meeting will be March 7, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and to be held in the dining room at the Orchid Island Beach Club.

There will be a Town Council Meeting on April 4, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and to be held in the dining room at the Orchid Island Beach Club.

Please check with Town Hall Staff prior to any scheduled meeting as date, time and place are subject to change.

 
      STREETLIGHT INSTALLATION

The Town of Orchid was asked by the Community Association of the Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club to install an additional streetlight at all intersections that do not currently have two.  The Town Council voted unanimously to approve the expenditure.  Eleven new streetlights will be installed beginning January 2012.  You may notice work going on for a few weeks to complete the project.  Once complete, the Town of Orchid believes the additional lights will not only enhance the safety along the roadways in Orchid, but will be aesthetically pleasing as well.

          NEW POLLING PLACE

The registered voters in the Town have a new polling location at which to cast their votes.  The new location will be the Community Center located in the Town of Indian River Shores, located at 6001 North A1A.  The precinct number is 202.  For more information please visit the Town Clerk Election Information page or contact the Town Clerk.

    FP & L SMART METER INSTALLATION

FP & L will be switching over current meters to Smart Meter technology beginning May 2012.  You should receive a postcard from FP & L alerting you to this change.  For more information, visit their website at: www.fpl.com/energysmart 

TOWN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Town of Orchid was established in 1965 in order to create a separate municipality that would be self-governing and would allow legal separation from certain aspects of the County system such as County zoning, law enforcement and certain County taxes. Because of the Town’s incorporation, it derives both power and responsibilities from the Florida Legislative Code.
