Some businesses require a State license, as well, and we require a copy of this license prior to issuing the Town’s Business Tax Receipt. The Town Clerk Department maintains a complete listing of all businesses taxed in our Town and can answer inquiries regarding these businesses. Any complaints concerning business practices, however, should be addressed to the Better Business Bureau (407-621- 3300). To apply for a Business Tax Receipt, call 772-569-7686 or visit the Town Clerk Department, located in Town Hall at 7406 US Highway 1., Vero Beach, Florida. We also offer the application for the Business Tax Receipt and related Ownership information form in PDF which may be downloaded from this site. We are not prepared to accept applications via internet submittal at this time, so you will still have to mail or bring your application to the above address. TOWN OF ORCHID – ELECTIONS Town Elections Changes The State of Florida moved its primary from February 5 to January 29 so the state would have a more prominent role in selecting presidential nominees. Due to this change, municipalities needed to make a decision on holding their elections on January 29, retain the March election and bear the full cost of the election as it is considered a special election since it does not fall on a general election date, or move their elections to the general election date in November. The Town of Orchid Town Council moved the Town's election to November. This decision was decreed by Ordinance No. 2007-05 by an amendment to the Town Charter. The Town of Orchid Town Council had three (3) seats open for the General Election that was held on November 2, 2010. Five (5) candidates ran for the three (3) open seats. The names and the number of votes each received are as follows: Paul H. Johnson 209 23.38% Suzanne S. Joyce 164 18.34% Harris F. Webber 186 20.81% Donna S. Spackman 164 18.34% Francis C. Oatway 171 19.13% There were 111 undervotes and 27 overvotes. Therefore, Messrs Johnson, Webber and Oatway assume the vacant seats. The Town of Orchid has five sitting members on its Council. |
