TOWN ELECTIONS CHANGES
The State of Florida moved its primary from February 5 to January 29 so the state would have a more prominent role in selecting presidential nominees. Due to this change, municipalities needed to make a decision on holding their elections on January 29, retain the March election and bear the full cost of the election as it is considered a special election since it does not fall on a general election date, or move their elections to the general election date in November. The Town of Orchid Town Council moved the Town's election to November. This decision was decreed by Ordinance No. 2007-05 by an amendment to the Town Charter.
TOWN ELECTION CYCLE
The Town holds elections every two years at which time voters will elect either 2 or 3 members of the 5 member Council. The next election cycle for the Town of Orchid Town Council will be November 6, 2012. At that time 3 seats will become open.
If you are interested in running for a seat on the Orchid Town Council, please contact the Town Clerk.
*PLEASE NOTE*
POLLING PLACE LOCATION CHANGE FOR REGISTERED VOTERS
Registered voters living in the Town of Orchid will now cast their vote at the Town of Indian River Shores Community Center located at 6001 North A1A, Indian River Shores, Florida, 32963. The polling place precinct number is 202. The Indian River County Supervisor of Elections made the change because she thought it difficult for some voters to navigate the walk to the polling room at the Environmental Learning Center and lighting in the voting area was inadequate. If you would prefer a ballot be mailed to you rather than to travel to the pollilng location, please contact the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections.
